Customs Alert - Final Rule Published Regarding Split Shipments
Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has addressed the long-standing issue of uniformity among ports for rules pertaining to entries where there are split shipments. On June 2, 2006, beginning on page 31921 in Vo. 72 of the Federal Register, a Final Rule was published giving the importer the option of filing one entry upon the arrival of the last portion of the shipment that was originally intended, invoiced and delivered to the carrier as a single shipment. Of course, the importer maintains the right to file a separate entry for each portion of such shipment as well. The rule is effective July 3, 2006.
